2023-24 Events
After a 2-year hiatus, I’m back for a limited set of events!
Nov. 8, 2023, 7-9 p.m.
From Exploding Meat to Cottage Core: A History of Canning Food. Oregon Museum of Science & Industry (OMSI) Science Pub (Elizabeth Paris Annual Lecture, History of Science Society), Portland, OR.
We know Portland can pickle most everything, but its history of food preservation goes much deeper than that. Oregon played an instrumental role in one of the most exciting developments in food technology in the industrial age: canning. From its origins and explosive failures to its transformation of American eating habits, we’ll crack the lid on modern preservation. Along the way, we’ll address Oregon’s leading role in agriculture technology, women’s education and how public sentiment has changed toward food in jars. More details and tickets forthcoming on OMSI’s website.
Nov. 12, 2023. 10-noon.
